Hey podcast listeners, it's Mike. I know, I know, it's been a while. I'm sure you were very concerned for my well being, but fear not, I'm back! I wanted to give you a quick update and let you know what to expect in Season 3 of The Upload podcast.
But first -- if you've been listening to the show, you know my original plan was to post a new episode each week, alternating between interviewing creative doers and then debriefing what we can learn from their stories. I really enjoyed talking with everyday people doing extraordinary creative things – it was inspiring to hear their stories and see the many different paths people take while pursuing their dreams.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to keep up.
Turns out doing interviews the right way takes a lot of time and effort – from finding interesting people to interview, to getting them to say yes, and researching, prepping, scheduling, and finally editing the interviews, I was spending a lot of hours in front of my computer. That wouldn't be a big deal except I already work a regular 9 to 5 where I sit in front of a computer all day. Combine that with a new toddler running around the house, and the math just didn't add up – the fun I was having making the podcast just wasn't enough to justify the time cost of making it.
But before it sounds like I'm complaining about my hectic life, let me clarify: I'm so glad I have reasons that made me stop. A good job, a beautiful little toddler, and an amazing wife are all things for which I'm incredibly grateful. But, part of being a successful sidehustler is knowing how to prioritize, so I had to take my own advice and pull back for a season.
And so, I'm finally ready to get back into the swing of it, but in a more sustainable way.
My wife and I recently joined a new small group at our church where the men and women alternate weeks. That means, I have a perfect opportunity every other week to spend a few hours on this podcast without affecting my family.
So, expect a new episode every other Tuesday night (… Or Wednesday if I run out of time. Hey, I'm human!).
And, because formal interviews take so much time, any interviews I do will likely be more informal, like a phone call between two friends. For many episodes, I plan to keep it short and just share a few things I'm learning. It'll be a mix of things I'm learning, reflections on books I'm reading, and more. Basically they'll be like my old debrief episodes but shorter and from a number of different sources.
On top of all that, I recently created a Facebook page for the show – just search for The Upload podcast. If you want to get notified when I release a new episode, just like the page. I'd love to hear from you – I've always wanted this podcast to be more of a conversation than a monologue. So feel free to post on the page and share what you're learning too.
Thanks for listening, and I look forward to sharing my journey with you throughout Season 3.
